As someone who frequently travels, firefighter Mika Sivho wanted to devise a way of bringing a sauna with him. The Sauna Stoke 2.0, heated by wood, is six feet tall, six feet high, 10 feet long and weighs around 2,500 pounds. The creative craftsman, who lives in British Columbia, Canada, intends to sell his toasty product for £6,470. A man has built the hottest product this winter – a portable sauna. Mika Sivho’s creation can be towed along by holiday goers, allowing them to experience a traditional wood sauna’s relaxing environment at any time, any place. The craftsman, who lives in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, intends to sell his product for $13,000 CAD (£6,470). After toying with ‘Mobile Sauna’ and ‘Sauna On Wheels’ he branded his company Sauna Stoke. A second-generation Finnish craftsman, Mika, 31, grew up with an electric sauna in his home in Finland, a country that averages one sauna per household. As someone who frequently travels, firefighter Mika wanted to devise a way of bringing a sauna with him wherever he went. He said: ‘I consider it almost as an art piece, 99 per cent custom – really only the trailer, stove, and water bucket are not custom by me. ‘With wood heat there is no thermostat, you learn to regulate it with air, wood and timing.’ Though portable saunas do exist, Mika wanted to make a version that was most similar to the authentic saunas of his home country. He designed and built his first portable sauna in November 2012 using a trailer that he had picked up to house it. Mika opted to use heat from wood, as electric and gas saunas are not the same as traditional ones. Since that first portable sauna, Mika has now been working on a model that he hopes will have greater widespread appeal. The Sauna Stoke 2.0 is larger than his original version – it is six feet tall, six feet high, 10 feet long and weighs around 2,500 pounds. Though most saunas use birch, Mika opted for a cedar interior, as it’s more similar to the North American environment where he now lives and travels. His latest model can comfortably house around six people and is nearly totally hand-crafted. Building a portable sauna takes Mika around four weeks with the craftsman creating his most recent version in January 2015. He added: ‘I gave the first sauna honours to my dad, who has since passed. ‘He approved with a big grin and said that the temperature reached 120C. ‘I have some other sauna ideas, but everything has a financial cost and I can’t get the cart ahead of the horse.’
